The Mold Quality Indicator is a simple to use electronics based instrument that provides measurement by pressing a probe for a few seconds onto any suitable flat area of a core or mold. It measures by subjecting the mold or core to a light air pressure and then measuring the back pressure. High readings result from small air spaces between sand grains, and are the result of fine sand or high compaction. Low readings are produced from large air spaces between the sand grains and are the result or coarse sand or poor compaction. Readings can be taken in 2-3 seconds on production cores and molds.

The MQI unit is supplied with a battery charger. Calibration tools are supplied with the probes (ordered separately).
