The unit is held perpendicular to the mold surface and the penetrator is slowly depressed with constant pressure into the mold surface until it stops by contact with the positive stop. The results are provided on a LCD digital display. The digital display reduces operator variation when compared to dial type displays. The readings are in units of pounds per square inch (psi), or n/sq. cm. if desired.
